Mr. Semiat is a professor of chemical engineering and, since 1989, a faculty member at the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology. He is also the director of the Grand Water Research Institute and the head of the Rabin Desalination Laboratory.
Prof. Semiat’s research interests include:
- Heat and mass transfer phenomena in separation processes
- Experimental hydrodynamics of industrial gas-liquid, liquid-liquid and solid-liquid systems
- Application of electro-optical techniques in the study of two-phase flow systems
- Water technologies with emphasis on water desalination aspects
- Applications of membranes to separation processes and water desalination
- Crystallization from solutions – application to nano-particles
Prof. Semiat's professional experience encompasses performing R&D projects for ICL – Israel’s leading chemicals corporation, and its subsidiaries (Dead Sea Works, Dead Sea Bromine, Bromine Compounds, Negev Phosphates, Rotem Fertilizers, Periclass, Fertilizers and Chemicals, and Desalination Engineering). Prof. Semiat received his undergraduate degree (B.Sc), cum laude, and Ph.D. from the Chemical Engineering Department at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.
